'Our mission is to enable Vermonters with vision problems, whether blindness or impairment, to achieve and maintain independence'. The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI), a non-profit organization founded in 1926, is the only private agency to offer free training, services, and support to visually impaired Vermonters. Each year we serve hundreds of children from birth to age 22 and adults age 55 and over. VABVI employs teachers of the visually impaired, certified orientation and mobility specialists, vision rehabilitation therapists, and low vision rehabilitation therapists. Our specialized staff is also contracted to work with employment-aged adults through the State Department, Vermont Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBVI). VABVI and DBVI also work together on some of the Teen Transition and Intensive Residential Life Experiences (IRLE) programs.
