What does Erie county health department do?
The Erie County Health Department (ECHD) and Erie County Community Health Center (ECCHC) aim to protect, promote, and preserve the health and well-being of all Erie County residents, particularly the most vulnerable. ECHD strives to assure quality public health services by promoting individual and community wellness, preventing injury, illness, and premature death or disability, and protecting the population from harmful effects of chemical, biological, and physical hazards within the environment. Our agency is guided by the 10 Essential Public Health Services. We assess and monitor population health, determine root causes, develop policies, systems, and environmental changes (PSECs), empower and mobilize community members, and evaluate programs and interventions put in place to adhere to continuous quality improvement. ECHD/ECCHC focuses on the health of our community throughout the life spectrum - from birth to senior years. We serve as the area's only Federally Qualified Health Center, offering primary care, pediatrics, women's health, dental, WIC, immunizations, and community health workers. We have a medically managed detoxification center onsite and offer mental health and addiction treatment services including counseling and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Our goal is to meet our community where they’re at and break down any barriers Erie County faces in receiving health care. As a response, we’ve expanded our health center and now have 8 convenient locations to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our community regardless of where they’re located, including 2 different school-based health centers in Vermilion and EHOVE.
