What does Employskills do?

The group is for higher education instructors interested in teaching transversal skills (also called 21st-century skills or soft skills) or integrating the practice and use of these skills into coursework. This group was launched as part of the Erasmus+ funded Employ Skills project. Development of relevant and high-quality skills and competences: skills mismatch is a central challenge for Europe and has a negative impact on young graduates success in finding a job. Today students graduate without the necessary transversal skills, which creates skills mismatch. To address that challenge it is crucial to improve skills formation in higher education, which can be done through the development of new curricula and assessment forms as well as professional development of teachers. Through the implementation of curricula focusing on developing students’ transversal skills reduced skills mismatch will be achieved and that will lead to strengthened employability. Developing curricula relevant to the labour market and societal needs: to address today’s skills mismatch it is essential to design and implement curricula, which focuses on the labour market’s needs. Through an advisory board and close collaboration with industry, the EmploySkills project will design and implement curricula that are relevant to the labour market and will through that approach contribute to reduced skills mismatch, strengthened employability and reduced youth unemployment.
